Introduction

Welcome to the rīchi mahjong (rīchi mājan) tutorial series. Today, rīchi mahjong can be regarded as synonymous with Japanese mahjong; this name derives from its signature rule, rīchi.

This series will be updated in tandem with my own study of mahjong. It begins with fundamental rules and progresses into strategy. The tutorial is suitable for readers with no prior mahjong experience, while also covering edge-case rules and practical explanations of underlying rationale, which beginners may choose to skip as needed.
